Artist, sculptor, woodcarver and shanachie (storyteller) Tony O'Callaghan- native of Cork, Ireland - will present this exciting workshop for the first time, in London Ontario. Tony's works as a sculptor and carver are displayed all over the world. His Studio Celtia in London Ontario is the largest Celtic art studio in North America. Tony has conducted classes in Irish folklore, Arthurian Legend, and Celtic Art History for several years. The strength of the past through the oral history handed down by his forefathers, enables Tony to recreate the color, glory and the pride of the Celtic past through workshops featuring visual content of Celtic sculpture, carving and symbolism.

This workshop will deal with the following:

 

  • The symbolism of Celtic artwork, music and dance
  • The theology of pre-Christian to the golden age of conversion
  • The tribal aspect of Celtic culture and its roots and symbiosis to other tribal cultures
  • The Celtic traditions of birth, marriage, courtship and death

A hands-on approach to the skills of the artisan through carving and symbols

Workshop includes visual arts, sculpture, music and storytelling, creating a magical tapestry of themes, sounds and images.
